Profe Denton's Favorite Language Apps and Websites

We live in a time that we are surrounded by technology to help us achieve our daily goals and learn more. While in this class, our first goal is communication, another goal is to correctly utilize technology and the internet to achieve this goal. Here are a few of the tools and websites that we will be utilizing in this class.

Sounds of Speech This free website allows the user to hear natives pronounce the sounds that we will use in the Spanish language.

Duolingo This is a free learning website that teaches principles of Spanish grammar and expands Spanish vocabulary. It is also available as an app for iOS, Android, and Windows.

SpanishDict This free website is an extremely accurate Spanish-English translation tool. It takes into account the various uses of words in different cultures to provide the language learner with the best possible translation.

Colby Spanish This free website offers grammar practice exercises for various grammar principles incorporating Latinamerican and Hispanic culture. It also offers explanations for grammar principles when the incorrect answers are selected.

Attention Parents! (¡Attención a los Padres!)

I would love to welcome you and your daughter or son to my Spanish class for the semester! My name is Profe Holly Denton, and I am so excited to have this opportunity to share my love of language learning and cultural understanding with your teenagers as such an important stage of development in their lives. With your help this semester, your sons and daughters will have an opportunity to acquire and develop a skill that can be both crucial and beneficial to professional development. With that in mind, here are a few things that your student will need and that I encourage you do help them with to have success in this course.
  1. Your student will need a Google Account in order to access assignments in Google Classroom. This will be our main form of assignment completion, and enrollment in this Classroom course is mandatory.
  2. Your student will need internet access in order to complete several homework assignments and projects throughout the semester. If there are any problems with getting internet access at home, please contact me by email so I may make accommodations for your student.
  3. Your student will need access to an array to free, easy-to-use language apps in order to assist them in language acquisition. Most of these apps can be accessed via desktop or laptop computers, but many of them are available as mobile apps as well. For a complete list of these apps, click here.
  4. Your student will need encouragement from you as a parent! Learning a new language can be difficult and challenging, and your student may feel like giving up at one time or another. Please encourage them by becoming invested in what they are learning. Help them remember to prepare for class and ask them to share new things that they learned in Spanish.
Thank you for allowing me to teach your daughter or son about the exciting world of the Spanish language and culture this semester!
